Yesterday I went to see this new movie 'Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa'. A new malay movie (which I usually don't watch). When I saw the poster of the movie and knew that it was a KRU productions, I just had to see it (just wanted to rate it). It is said that Yusry (director) wants to go international thus the standards are set high and the idea is in a very wide range of creativeness.
The title of this story will be changed to The Malay Chronicles: Bloodlines in other countries
(more commercial). Its a huge vision targeting for international audience. In order for a film to go world wide, there are a few elements of attraction that needs to be handled delicately.
If it was to compare with other Malay movies, this is the best one yet created. Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa is not a usual typical Malay movie. Its more like Troy and a bit of 300 if you ask me. But still, as great as it may sound, there are still things that needs to be improved such as:-
- costumes (poor costumes. Its like if its made from plastic. The rate for costumes is 2.5/5)
- acting (some of the actors in this story is hard as a stone. Not natural. Especially the extras. I give 2/5 for the extras and 3/5 for the main characters)
- Plot. (the plot arranging is a bit poor. Though this is a great movie, Puteri Gunung Ledang's (PGL) plot arrangements are better)
